Every year, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation selects the 50,000 high school juniors with the highest scores and notifies them that they are in the race to earn a significant scholarship. Next Thursday is the end of the drop period, the time when students are allowed to drop classes before the class are permanently added to their transcript.
